Ex Arsenal star believes Arsene Wenger has made a big mistake at Arsenal which has caused us to miss out on the Premier League title since 2004.
With the season more than half way gone already and the club at risk of missing out on another league title, fans have turned against Wenger once again.
Many think the tactician who won three league titles and four FA cups in his first eight years in charge no longer has what it takes to challenge at the top but Campbell reckons the boss’ failure to find the perfect blend between English and Foreign players in recent years is the reason why he has struggled in the last decade.
“He’s almost gone away from what made him great,” the 42-year-old, who made over 200 appearances for the Gunners, told Sky Sports, as quoted by the Daily Star.
“He use to have a fantastic balance between really good English and foreign players.
“A lot of teams copied that and used that and moved on.
“But he went a little bit away from that and I think he’s suffered from that.
“With the youngsters coming in, paying off the stadium, saying that he can’t buy bigger players that kind of held them back as well.
“The fundamental thing is he had a lovely balance between really good top clash British players and a mixture of foreign players playing together, cohesively, making a really strong group.
“And I think he’s gone away from that.”
Wenger won two consecutive FA Cups in 2014 and 2015 but fans want more and believe we should be winning big titles year in year out.
The league title has been our priority for many years but it seems we would miss out on it once again but as fans we can only hope and push our team by being the 12th man on the pitch until it is mathematically impossible.
