Santi Cazorla has warned we must not let Hector Bellerin leave the club amidst interest in his services.

Bellerin has developed into one of Europe’s best fullbacks in recent years and his performances have caught the eyes of a lot of clubs.

Manchester City and Barcelona are said to have been impressed by the defender which prompted them to register their interest in the summer. As expected, they were knocked back but fresh reports are claiming they haven’t given up and are prepared to try again next summer.

But Cazorla has warned we must not succumb to the pressure of selling the defender as it would be a mistake if we let him leave the club.

“We’ll see [what happens with Bellerin],” Cazorla told IBTimes, as quoted by The Express.

“It is clear that Hector is the right-back of the future.

“You could see in the victory over Swansea how good he is. He was all over the place and never stopped running.

“For Arsenal it would be a mistake to let him go. It is obvious that many teams want him. There has been talk about Manchester City and Barcelona.

“He is a player with great potential and I am sure he will also be a key part of the future of the Spanish national team.”

I guess our board already knows what Cazorla is saying and that’s why they have moved to offer the defender a new deal.

Bellerin has become a mainstay in the starting xi since he broke into the team in 2013 and it is necessary we keep our key players.

The defender revealed in the summer that he is happy here and is not looking for a move away which should make it easy for him to agree an extension with us.

However, we know things change quickly in football but we expect the defender to show a measure of loyalty by signing a new contract to repay the trust we’ve had in him since he joined us at a tender age.
