Arsenal suffered a major set back in their attempts to chase Leicester City for the Premier League title this season after giving up a two goal lead at West Ham to draw 3-3.
The game was characterized by lots of defensive mistake from the Gunners and the defenders have been receiving criticism for their performance against Slaven Bilic’s men; but Koscielny has pointed out the lack of protection the back four received as the cause of the dismal performance last Saturday.
The Frenchman pointed out that defending shouldn’t be left for the defenders alone and claims West Ham were giving far too much freedom on the wings.
The defender argued the team shouldn’t have allowed West Ham put crosses into the box but also admitted that the defenders should have done better to defend those crosses knowing that Andy Carroll who thrives on crosses was around the box . He said:
“You can’t let them get a cross in easy because they have some good players on the wings.”
“It is a job for everyone, not just the defenders/ The guys on the flanks need to help their team-mates with defending.”
“He [Carroll] is quality when it comes to heading the ball. If you want to win the duel, you need to be stronger and arrive early on the cross.”
