Arsenal players are furious with the club after Alexis Sanchez was sold to Manchester United.
With the Chile international’s contract expiring at the end of the season, the Gunners decided to cash in.
They feared losing him for nothing, and were prepared to let him go – even to a rival.
Manchester City were the hot favourites to land the 29-year-old, after having a move fall through on deadline day last summer.
But United blew them out of the water with a huge contract worth £500,000-a-week.
Paris St-Germain were also rumoured to be linked with the player but ultimately the former Barcelona forward chose Old Trafford.
The Sanchez saga has cast a long shadow over Arsenal’s season this term.
Arsene Wenger is under huge pressure at the club after four successive defeats amid a campaign of disappointment.
The north London side are sixth in the Premier League, 13 points behind arch-rivals Tottenham who are fourth.
And key stars in the Arsenal dressing-room are furious with Wenger and the club for letting Sanchez go to a rival, according to ESPN.
A source said: “A lot of [the players] are also unhappy about the sale of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.
“Alexis could be difficult at times, but the players think it sent the wrong message to sell him to a rival.”
Arsenal face AC Milan tonight at the San Siro in the Europa League.
The competition may be their best chance of playing Champions League football next season, they just need to win it.
