According to the Express, Arsenal have stepped up their interest in the pursuit of long time Italian target.
Arsenal has approached Italian Champions over the possible transfer of attacking midfielder Sebastian Giovinco.
The diminutive player, who can play as a second striker, has seen his values underestimate at Turin with Carlos Tevez, Fernando Llorente and, one time Arsenal target, Alvaro Morata, all ahead of him in the pecking order. Giovinco has been a part of the Juventus era from the post-Calciopoli era, but never got to make a mark on the first team under Antonio Conte, having to go on two separate loan spells to get match time.
Giovinco, 27, has been linked with the Gooners in the past, but most recently early this year in the wake of Walcott’s injury in January.
His pace and dribbling potential were qualities that saw him likened to the English man and with Wenger still looking to bolster our options upfront, the Italian International has come up as very available to the Gunners. His best position is as a second forward behind a main striker, potentially allowing him to complement Olivier Giroud or Danny Welbeck, while he can also play out wide. His small stature means he is able to shroud the ball under his feet, giving him the attributes of a playmaker or one who could feature in the free Number 10 role.
Giovinco has 17 international caps for Italy with one goal, but hasn’t featured in a squad since June. He needs a January move to re-ignite his chances of reuniting with Antonio Conte in the Italian national team in the warm-ups to the Euros in two years time. He has been contracted to Juventus since 2006, but played on loan out at Empoli and later part-owned by Parma where he played for two seasons before Juventus bought out his contract in 2012. His best ever Serie A season came for Parma in 2011/12, where he scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists.
Giovinco is just 1 metre 64 tall, one of the smallest professional footballers in the world. According to his agent, Giovinco is worth 40 million euros, and deserved to be regarded alongside Javier Pastore and Alexis Sanchez.
Well, there’s only one way to settle the argument about Sanchez then…
