Arsenal have somewhat started an early preparation to the January transfer window, with the Gooners linked already with a handful of targets with the opportunity of doing business before the Winter window is officially kicked open 87 days from today.
Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa has dismissed any likelihood of a move to either of Arsenal or Chelsea in the coming window.
The former Liverpool man who has been linked with a return to the Premier League, Arsenal and Chelsea booked as the most probable destinations, have declared his desire to see out the remainder of his footballing days in Madrid, despite not being first-choice right back at present.
Speaking to Realmadrid TV, Arbeloa said, “I want to be part of this club for as long as I can. This is home for me.”
“This is the club of my heart and hopefully, I have many years ahead here. I have two (years) left as it stands, but it would be an honour to see out my career with Real Madrid”.
He also acknowledged the uneasy nature of his ambitions to remain relevant to the team due to the ever-enormous demands made on the players by both club staff and fans, with Fiorentino Perez at will to welcome or withdraw any player depending on his potential to bring enough commercial input, but is determined to graft his way into gaining their unflinching trust.
“I know that is a very difficult task because of how highly demanding this club is, but that is not a problem for me. I will always put in the effort and make sacrifices on a daily basis in order to win titles.”
Arbeloa was part of the team who won the long-awaited La Decima last year and having been a fan of the club, even a member of the youth teams when they won La Novena, the 31-year old does not consider the prospect of a return to the Premier League as enticing enough, choosing rather to finish his career where he had initially started in 2004.
Before the emergence of Dani Carvajal and Nacho, Arbeloa had been the principal full back for Madrid, especially in their La Liga-winning team of 2012, where he was a teammate of Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil. He has, however, fallen down the pecking order under Ancelotti, leading to his exclusion from Vicente del Bosque’s humiliated entourage to Brasil.
Arsene Wenger had been looking forward to shoving Mourinho off in the bid to sign the defender but he will now have to take his fight elsewhere,
