Chelsea and Arsenal have been dealt a transfer blow after Porto midfielder Ruben Neves has talked up his future in Portugal. Neves, 18, joined Porto at th age of eight and has progressed through the ranks, playing at every youth level at the club and country to become one of the hottest prospect in European football.
The youngster has been so impressive this season that Porto team-mate and former Barca winger Cristian Tello compared him one of Spain’s top players: “He is fantastic with the ball at his feet, he knows how to position himself and he’s aggressive. He’s similar to Sergio Busquets.” Tello said.
Neves can be described as a player that could be deployed as a holding midfielder or play further up the pitch, and he possesses excellent vision and passing skill. Neves hold the record for the youngest Portuguese player to ever play in the UEFA champions’ league at 17 years 5months and eight days; and made history again when he captained Porto against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA champions’ league as the youngest captain in the competition’s history.
Despite reported interest from sone of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, Neves remained insistent that he can’t see his immediate future anywhere else than at the Estadio do Dragao in his pursuit to win trophies. The Gunners have been repeatedly linked with a £22 Million move for the youngster but Neves has a release clause of £30 Million and he is under contract with Porto till June 2019.
