Arsenal have been handed a major boost in the pursuit of long time Portuguese target.
Latest reports according to popular Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claim that Sporting Lisbon are keen on landing Arsenal World Cup sensation Joel Campbell, handing the Gunners an opening to propose a swap deal for long time target William Carvalho.
Arsenal’s Costa Rican forward Campbell, has found it difficult to secure a place in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up since his return from several loan spells, and was shipped out on loan in January to Villarreal for more opportunities of first team football.
O Jogo claim that Sporting are desperate to land Campbell despite his poor performances with the Yellow Submarines, with the 22-year-old forward yet to find the back of the net this season.
Sporting’s latest interest in Campbell have given Arsenal the hopes of finally landing long time target Carvalho.
Carvalho has been on Arsenal’s radar after a string of impressive performances last season, but several attempts from the Gunners to sign the midfielder where cut short despite the player admitting that joining Arsenal would be a dream move.
Arsenal are reported to have made a fresh bid of around £22 million for the Portuguese International, and would likely offer a cash-plus-Campbell deal to tempt Sporting to sell Carvalho.
23-year-old Carvalho has also been courted by Chelsea and Manchester United in previous transfer windows.
