Arsenal seem ready to go for the kill when the winter transfer window reopens, with the Gooners making significant strides in pursuit of their target months before the window is officially open.
Now, Arsenal are eager to begin negotiations with Barcelona over the transfer of their forward, Pedro Rodriguez according to Metro.
Pedro has reportedly handed in a transfer request at the Camp Nou as he continues to be disillusioned with life under Luis Enrique. Arsene Wenger appears ready to take advantage of the 27 year old’s situation though Chelsea and Liverpool are believed to be interested.
Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez have already been sold for big money prizes this season and will demand about £25 million for Pedro Rodriguez, a fee which may not be too much for Wenger to splash even in the January window.
Arsene Wenger had moved for the Spanish International in the last summer window but a deal was finally called off, shifting our attention to Alexis. The Chilean’s influence in the team has been nothing short of staggering. He’s been virtually the one carrying the team all on his own and giving we can’t keep all our eggs in one basket, Wenger surely must be on the lookout for another player of similar energy to Alexis.
On another note, Pedro will be a vital signing for us to provide us with balance. While we seem well stocked with players who could operate on the right-hand side of attack, the left has yet to be manned by a real reliable force. Cazorla has been immensely disappointing, Podolski doesn’t get the chance, and neither Walcott nor Chamberlain will likely feel at home on that side, creating a need for someone there. The team is full of runners already, but a good balance still seems to be lacking in our attacks. As a supplement in the center-forwards role, Pedro can equally rival Welbz, applying his experience as a good finisher, having replaced Suarez in the Clasico.
It cannot be said that Pedro has past his best days having been part of the Guardiola team who dominated club football during his time at Barcelona. He still has a lot of football in him and his pace and finishing ability would still prove vital for us. Like Fabregas and Alexis, Pedro may be looking forward to a move to the Premier League for a new challenge to re-discover the joy of football, and what better place than at the Emirates. Wenger must fancy taking him, as he has that pedigree of revitalising players’ whose careers had appeared to be headed for an unplanned drift to oblivion, Danny Welbeck’s case coming to mind.
Though we are in most need of a defender, Gooners will be happy to more attacking power in our team as we have sometimes been limited in our options going forward, with the heavy reliance on Alexis and Welbeck.
Will Prdro be a good winter addition for the Gooners?
