Arsenal To Move Ahead Of Man Utd & Liverpool To Swoop For Unsettled World Class Duo In January.

Arsenal’s expected January recruitment mission is no longer so far away and two long tracked duo from Villa Park are set to be the first to walk in as their contract situations remain under the clouds.

According to Mirror, Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar and Fabian Delph have both been targeted by top sides in the Premier League including Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton as potential additions to their respective sides in January. Vlaar had an excellent World Cup campaign with the Netherlands at Brasil while Delph’s call up to the Three Lions by Roy Hodgson this season has seen his stock rise earning the admiration of the Premier League’s elite.

Both stars of Paul Lambert’s team are, however, on the cusp of departure from Villa Park as they are on the final months of their contracts and with no signs from the board that new deals will be offered, it appears they are awaiting any offers for both players so as to cash in.

While Vlaar is experienced and has got himself an enhanced reputation by his World Cup performance, he is going to cost significantly less than Delph, being a defender and almost close to 30 years in age. That said, he remains a player who could go a mile to fulfill what Wenger needs for an extra man in defense following the shortage with which we had started the season. We are likely to have a situation where most of all the available defenders will be hoarded by their clubs and would command hefty fees.

Delph is regarded as having a good command of the ball in a holding role. Though not exactly the defensive midfielder we are in need of, the 26 year old star would give us more options in the center of the park to supplement Wilshere, Ramsey and our two holding midfielders.

He was visibly impressive in our victory over Aston Villa in September, with the first shot in that game after good combination play. A left-footed player, he is able to take chances with his right foot with a good measure of accuracy. His England debut against Norway at Wembley saw him in his combative cloak, hacking and hassling, albeit recklessly. Nevertheless, it showed an essential ingredient of his game on the defensive front. He is able to put in a shift for the team to cover the defence while, at the same time, making bursting runs into the opponents’ area.

Vlaar comes with loads of experience despite having just arrived England two years ago from Feyenoord. A member of the UEFA Under-21 champions in 2006, Vlaar had an impressive upbringing making his professional debut at 20 and continually being reliable all through his sourjourn in the world of professional football. A six-foot-plus figure, Vlaar’s imposing size gives him the ability to shroud attackers into his web while his reading of the game is as keen as that which has made Per Metersacker a fan favorite at the Emirates.

Could a double swoop be activated for both by Wenger? Villa’s form have been in the muds of late and will both stars will be looking to escape the rut? Fingers crossed
