Arsenal will wait until Nice’ Champions League qualifying match before stepping up its interest in Jean-Michael Seri, according to reports.
Seri was one of Nice’s standout players last season and his fine form helped his team secure one of Ligue 1 Champions League spot. However, they will have to go through the qualification round and Seri is expected to play a key role for them once again.
Arsenal reportedly hold a strong interest in the midfielder but haven’t made a concrete move yet.
Guardian reporter Ed Aarons has now revealed on Twitter via London.Football that Arsenal are waiting to know Nice Champions League fate before making a move for Seri.
Nice face Dutch giant Ajax this week in a game that will decide their fate after playing a 1-1 draw in the first leg in France.
Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have also been linked with Seri but it is Arsenal who are believed to be leading the race for the Cote d’ivoire international.
It is still unclear why Arsenal are waiting till after Nice CL qualifiers before making a move for Seri, it could be to allow the player focus on helping his team instead of being distracted by transfer talks. We’ll only have to wait a few more days to find out.
Seri is reportedly being targeted by Wenger as a direct replacement for injured Santi Cazorla, and his playing style has previously been compared to the likes of Xavi and Iniesta of Barcelona.
