Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on bolstering his side in the January transfer window for the second half of the 2015/2016 season.
Arsenal have been urged to sign a world class defensive midfielder despite completing the signing of Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel, according to squawka.com.
The Gunners recently completed the signing of the Egyptian midfielder from FC Basel as cover for the injured Francis Coquelin. However, Arsenal Legend Paul Merson has suggested that the Gunners sign a world class midfielder in order to successfully win the Premier league title this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the Gunners draw with Liverpool on Wednesday, the Gunners legend claimed his former club needs to sign another midfielder along with a defender. He said:
“I still think they need a world-class holding midfielder or someone better than what they have got and the other thing they need is another defender.”
“If you watched the defending on Wednesday, you cannot go away to Liverpool who, let’s be honest, did not play really with a centre-forward, or at least a centre-forward who is a massive threat.
“So for me, I think a centre-back is needed badly and watching that game, you were thinking; ‘What would Messi, Neymar and Suarez do to them?’”
The former Arsenal man already has his sights on the Gunners round of 16 champions league clash against Barcelona and one can not really blame him for advising Wenger to shore up the defense due to the threat of Messi, Neymar and Suarez.
