Arsenal vs Liverpool. Emirates Stadium. 24th August 2015.
Arsenal played out a goalless draw with Liverpool on Monday night in what was entirely a tale of two halves. Let’s see how each Arsenal Player fared.
Petr Cech: 8.5 (MoTM)
The goalkeeper produced a performance to more than atone for his error against West Ham on opening day, he made a reflex near post save to a tricky Milner’s shot, and stopped a goal bound Benteke’s shot from Coutinho’s center. He rescued the team on many other occasions and certainly won the home fans back.
Another solid performance from the youngster after a shaky start, he grew into the game and defended well, also supported the attack when he could.
Chambers: 4 (FoTM)
A nervous first half performance for the youngster, he grew into the game as the match went on.
He showed why he should be among the first choice center backs, the defender was faultless all evening, tackling and dispossessing the opponents, even saving his nervous partner numerous times. He held and marshalled his backline so well that he even spotted an offside before the linesman on one occasion.
The left back did well to hold his line, did nothing spectacular but worked dillegently in defence and attack.
This was arguably Coquelin’s best performance in an Arsenal Shirt. The defensive midfielder showed that the Crystal Palace game was well behind him, he battled and hassled the attacking Liverpool team, sliding into tackles and dispossessing anyone that came close to him. More importantly he showed his improving long range of passes, had Ramsey been faster, some of those long passes would have created chances.
Had an ineffective first half, and slowly found his feet in the second half. It wasn’t one of his good days.
Was one of the faultless Arsenal players on the day, his work rate in the match was phenomenal, he added skills and technique to that, he popped up everywhere, helped out Bellerin in defense and had a goal controversially ruled out for offside.
Had a quiet first half, then exploded in the second half, showing surprising work rate, incredible technique and intelligent passing. In few words “he was a beauty to watch” in the second half.
The Chilean underperformed by his standards, he was ineffective in the first half, then slowly grew in the second half as the team started reviving their attack. Wasn’t one of his best days.
The Frenchman showed why Arsenal need a new striker. He contributed nothing to the Arsenal attack in the first half, while his counterpart was pressuring Arsenal’s defense. He got better in the second half but wasted chances. It was one of the games the striker would want to forget.
Came on for Giroud and was ineffective, with Liverpool now sitting deep
Came on for Coquelin when Arsenal were on the front foot and added pace and power to the attack.
