Arsenal sensationally defeated Manchester City 2-1 in an intense match, with Walcott beautifully curling in the opener before Giroud added a second on the stroke of half time, with Ozil creating both goals, Yaya Toure halved the deficit in the second half, but Arsenal held on to seal a morale boosting victory and three points. We examine how each Arsenal player fared in the game.
Petr Cech: 6.5
The Czech Republic goalkeeper was excellent once again, more in organizing his back line than in making saves. He could be blamed for the consolation goal.
Hector Bellerin: 7.0
Another outstanding performance from the young Spaniard, sliding into tackles neatly and dispossessing opponents, completely shut out his flank, forcing City to use the opposite flank as their channel of attack, he also added his bit in attack
Per Mertesacker: 7.0
A good game for the big German, he held his line well, orgamized his defence well and made vital blocks.
Laurent Koscielny: 6.5
Alongside Mertesacker formed a strong defensive unit, he was caught out of position twice, but generally did very well
Nacho Monreal: 6.5
The Spaniard had a very busy day, bore the brunt of every Man City attack, with most targeted at his flank, didn’t get much help from Gibbs when he came on.
Aaron Ramsey: 7.5
The in-form midfielder put in another excellent shift in midfield tonight, he was everywhere, making the last ditch tackle one minute, starting an attack the next minute, and also on hand to torment Joe Hart and his defence.
Mathieu Flamini: 6.0
Was silent in the first half, but did his job of marking out Yaya Toure to the best of his ability, he lost focus when Yaya Toure was moved from the No 10 role to a box to box midfield role.
MezutOzil: 8.0 (MOTM)
The Talismanic German was once again star of the show, everything Arsenal, went through him, he created chances whenever Arsenal attacked, and added two more assists to bring it to 15 assists in 14 games.
Joel Campbell: 6.5
The Costa Rican started slowly and missed a couple of chances, but his exceptional work rate and defensive contribution earned him an ovation when he was brought off in the second half, he is growing more confident by the week.
Theo Walcott: 7.0
The striker brought back memories of Theirry Henry when he perfectly curled a shot into the corner of Joe Hart’s goal from the edge of the box, put in a very good shift defensively and troubled City’s defence time and time again.
Olivier Giroud: 7.0
The striker scored what is turning out to be a customary goal, latching on to Ozil’s pass and finishing between Hart’s legs, he held up play well and had another good game.
Keiran Gibbs: 5.0
Disappointing after coming on, contributed nothing to the attack, and exposed Nacho Monreal who he was meant to cover, he will have a lot to do to unseat Monreal from the starting line-up
Brought on to replace Ozil and added pace, and power to the midfield
Was brought on to shore up the defence after Toure’s goal, and he assisted in doing that
