Arsenal vs Monaco: Player Ratings, Zero MOTM & Three FOTM.

No words can describe the game well enough, and even these ratings have been done with a bit of handbrakes and that is gracious considering Arsenal played without the ignition turned on at all.

Ospina: 5

The Colombian number 1 was hopeless on the first two goals, adding more comic to the first with the way he went slowly on the seat of his pants. On the third goal, well, Szczesny could not have been convinced. Poor performance from Ospina to say the least.

Bellerin: 5

An absolute shocker of a game from start to finish from the youngster. Left his position the entire game and this punished the entire team. Definitely not the kind of fight he hoped for to keep his place in the starting XI. Could easily have been the third flop of the match.

Mertesacker:  4  (FOTM1)

The BFG brought back memories of that Mertesacker we all thought had gone down with the ghosts of Norwich past. Still very much alive, it appears. Can we now have the new signing – Gabriel.

Koscielny: 5

Played his part in indulging his captain’s willingness to play dangerous passes at the back while already down by two goals.

Gibbs: 5

Unless Monreal was injured, cannot understand why he actually started; has gone straight down the performance curve this year. Sure won’t keep his place for Everton.

Coquelin: 6

Can’t find any reason to blame him tonight, only that gooners will now know he is not the ultimate having come up against the enormously imperious Geofferey Kondogbia.

Cazorla: 6

Light years from his best, especially in the second half. It really looks like the ambidextrous Spaniard needs rest?

Alexis: 6

The Chilean kept drifting inwards when he may have been useful expanding play on that left side. Never stopped fighting, though, eventually winning the corner for Chambo’s goal.

Ozil: 5

Not as bad as Gary Neville tried to label him but it reminded us about our frustrations with the German.

Welbeck: 4 (FOTM2)

Totally bamboozled as to why he was picked ahead of Walcott, again. There were signs of him in the first half till Giroud was taken off in the second half before he totally disappeared. Another flop of the match.

Giroud: 3 (FOTM3)

The desire was there, you could see it but it will take a long time for the Frenchman to recover from this horrible night, and he should, Fast!

Walcott: 5

Created some verve and maybe should have put one chance away. Should have started ahead of Welbeck.

Oxlade-Chamberlain: 6

Exquisite goal to give Gunners hope but crashed it all by being dispossessed for Monaco’s third goal.
