Arsenal vs Southampton: Starting XI – Boss Uses Very Strong 4-4-2 Formation

Ronald Koeman will again be without Steven Davis for the trip to the Emirates, with the midfielder nursing a minor knock.

Graziano Pelle remains a doubt with a knee injury and was still being assessed on Monday, so the Italian looks set for a place on the bench in a best case scenario.

Charlie Austin will hope to earn his first start for Southampton after scoring on his debut at Old Trafford, but the pace of Sadio Mane and Shane Long could once again be favoured by Koeman from the start.

On the back of three consecutive wins, Koeman is likely to stick with the 4-4-2 formation, with Dusan Tadic the favourite to start behind the front two, while Jordy Clasie may partner Victor Wanyama once again in central midfield.

The Dutch boss does have options in the middle of the park though, with James Ward-Prowse and Oriol Romeu viable alternatives. Cedric Soares and Matt Targett are expected to continue in their wing-back roles, with Ryan Bertrand set to start alongside Virgil van Dijk and Jose Fonte.

Maya Yoshida and Cuco Martina will likely provide back-up. Florin Gardos and Jay Rodriguez remain on the sidelines.
