Former Germany international Lothar Mattaus has warned Arsenal and other clubs interested in Julian Draxler to stay away from the playmaker.
Draxler’s future has been on the pages of newspapers in recent weeks and it is thought that Arsenal, PSG and Juventus are all considering making a bid for the winger in the winter transfer window.
The Germany international fueled the reports linking him away from Wolfsburg recently by claiming he wants to leave the club as soon as possible.
It wasn’t the first time this year that the player made such public declaration as he was vocal about his desire to leave Wolfsburg in the summer but the Bundesliga club didn’t grant his wishes.
Following his latest outburst, Matthaus believes he will not be a good signing for a big club because of his character.
He told Sport Bild : “I would like to say that as a big club I would not want Draxler at the moment.
“Partly because of his weakness in character and, on the other hand, since he is a talent but has not yet proved it permanently at a high level.
“I do not believe that the sale of Julian Draxler will bring Wolfsburg more than [what they paid for him] despite his long-term contract.
“His market value has suffered severely in recent years.”
Although Matthaus may not be right that Draxler would be a flop at a big club, one can’t really fault him for voicing his concerns because Draxler’s attitude has been unprofessional.
The midfielder’s actions hasn’t gone down well with every one associated with the German club and he was even booed by his fans last weekend.
However, I do not believe we will be making a move for Draxler in January, so there won’t be any need to fear if he would flop here or not
