Some Ex Gunners have been throwing their weight behind Arsene Wenger claiming he still remains the right person to take Arsenal forward but there is one who believes otherwise, remember Andrey Arshavin?
Andrey Arshavin believes the club’s over reliance on Arsene Wenger is part of the reasons the club has failed to challenge for the Premier League title in recent years, according to the Metro.
Arshavin said the club doesn’t challenge Wenger’s authority and the failure to do so has held the club back.
‘Arsenal have had the same head coach for a long time and he has his ideas,’ he said.
‘The whole team depends on the viewpoint of Arsene Wenger and his views towards football. I don’t know if this conservatism is a hindrance’.
Arshavin also added that insufficiency of quality players at the club cost us the chance to lift the title this season with other traditional big teams failing to live up to expectations.
‘It’s a conservative club. Over the last few years, Arsenal have bought two world-class players in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, while the goalkeeper Petr Cech has also joined. Apart from that, there have not been any major changes.
‘This season, Arsenal had every chance to become champions given the squad they have. All their main rivals, Chelsea, Manchester United and even Manchester City have not been looking bright.
‘Everyone was saying that the Gunners would be battling it out for the title, but as you can see, there is no comparison to Leicester this season. It is very likely that they will be crowned champions’.
Arshavin was a Gunner from 2009 to 2013 before he was sold to Zenit Saint Petersburg.
