Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger seems to have let his frustrations get the better of him. Following the goalless affair with Southampton on Tuesday, the gaffer lashed out at match officials which led to a heated exchange between he and the Saints manager Ronald Koeman.
The draw unsurprisingly comes with frustrations as the Gunners who were top of the League at the back end of last year now find themselves sitting in fourth place again, the surprising aspect is that Wenger-normally a reserved character-had a go at the match officials.
The game was typified by a goalkeeping master class by recently fit again Saints stopper Fraser Forster. The goalkeeper has been in inspired form since his return from injury as he is yet to concede a goal in his four appearances thus far, but the Gunners boss however confronted referee Lee Mason and fourth official Craig Pawson and accused them of missing a string crucial decisions Wenger said: “It’s always the same with you.”
But Koeman saw the exchange and confronted Wenger before replying: “It’s always the same with you?” You had 10 chances to score and couldn’t take any of them so why have a go at them?”
Wenger later speaking in his match conference said: “It’s maximum frustrating. You rate the quality of the chances you create and the quality of the finishing.
“The quality of the chances we created today, considering it’s a Premier League game, was high. The quality of the finishing was poor. That differential explains the 0-0.” before adding “We have to respond quickly and win our next game.”
The result means the Gunners have picked up just three points from a possible twelve leaving them in poor form as they remain winless in their last four league games having failed to find the back of the net in their last three games.
