Arsene Wenger has urged Olivier Giroud to stay at Arsenal next season.
Giroud is being linked with a return to France, with Marseille reportedly keen on his services.
The striker lost his place in Arsenal’s starting xi to Alexis Sanchez last season and Marseille are hoping to use the promise of regular football to lure him.
It isn’t just Marseille, West Ham United have also been linked with the forward but Wenger has urged him to snub the advances of these clubs to stay at Arsenal.
Although Wenger admitted Giroud didn’t play enough last term, he believes the striker can still play a crucial role for Arsenal next term.
Wenger said: “It has been a frustrating season for him because he has not played a lot. And when he has played well, he has not always played the next match.
“He has won us a lot of points when he has come on because he has scored lots of times. He has qualities that our team need.”
Arsenal are reportedly in the market for a new centre forward, with Lacazette believed to be our top target. Should we be successful in bringing another attacker, it could cause Giroud to rethink his future.
However, It remains to be seen whether he’ll decide to leave or stay to fight for his place in the team if another striker comes in.
