Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has hailed the Gunners first half performance when both sides met on Tuesday but said he knew the Gunners would not be able to sustain their performance for ninety minutes.

The Gunners who were still in the game until the 71st minute when Messi broke the deadlock now have the task of overturning a two goal deficit at the Camp Nou when both sides meet again in the return leg next month.

However, Messi while speaking to FC Barcelona official website, insisted his club won’t rest on their laurels but will try to win the game on their home ground.

“It was a great performance from us, we got a good result against a very good team with really good players,” he said.

“The first half was very tough, they were strong, but in the second half we knew they were not going to be able to keep up the pressure.

“It’s a great result away from home and a very important result, but the second leg is still to come.”

Messi added: ““Arsenal did very well in the first half, with some help, but we knew they wouldn’t be able to keep that pace up all the way. In the second half, we had more space and that’s how we got the first goal.

“At the Camp Nou, we‘ll go out to win, as we do at every ground.””

The second leg will take place at the Camp Nou March 16th
