Arsenal have seen their initial offer for FC Porto’s defensive midfielder rejected, according to reports.
Wenger is reportedly interested in signing a midfielder this summer and has been linked with a host of top midfielders across Europe. On Wenger’s list is FC Porto’s Danilo who has been impressive for both club and country this season.
With Mathieu Flamini set to leave the club, Wenger is looking for a tough tackling midfielder to aid Francis Coquelin.
According to Portuguese tabloid Correio de Manha via the Metro, Arsenal have seen their first offer for the midfielder rejected as the Portuguese club is holding out for a £31.7m fee which would activate the player’s release clause.
However, the report failed to mention how much the Gunners offered but its of the opinion that the club will have to meet Porto demands should we have any chance of signing Danilo.
Arsenal have also been linked with a move to sign Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka, the German club are adamant their captain is not for sale and that could be the reason Wenger turned to Danilo who he has also be scouting for a long time.
Knowing how difficult it is to negotiate with FC Porto and Wenger’s reluctance to spend big in the transfer market, it is highly unlikely both clubs will come to an agreement soon but we are hoping our transfer business is done quickly in order to integrate the players into the squad well before the season starts.
