Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is set to miss the beginning of next season, according to reports.
The striking position has been one of the talking points in the squad all summer as the team’s strikers failed to live up to expectation last term. This has caused fans to call for the signing of a world class striker but Wenger is yet to be successful.
The striking dilemma was worsened after Welbeck suffered a knee injury ruling him out of action for 9 months. and now the club’s only fit striker Olivier Giroud is now set to miss the beginning of next season.
According to Squawka via Football Insider, the striker would not return from holiday until one week before the opening fixtures.
The 29 year old was involved in France’s run to the Euro 2016 Final and has now been given a one month holiday by Wenger which won’t see him fit and ready for the opening game against Liverpool.
Wenger would now have to turn to 21 year old rookie Chuba Akpom to lead the line against the Reds.
Wenger has been working actively to sign a striker this summer and failed to sign Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy last month.
The club has also been linked with Olympic Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Napoli’s Higuain and the club won’t have a top striker for the opening game of the season unless Wenger signs one before then.
