Incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola could lure Arsenal midfielder to the Etihad this summer, according to reports.

The midfielder who joined Arsenal from Everton in 2011 is reportedly getting close to the end of his playing career and he is heavily touted to go into management once he retires.

It has been expected that he will take up a coaching job at Arsenal academy when he retires from active football but the Gunners are set to be shocked with recent developments.

According to the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola could offer Mikel Arteta role at the Etihad if the former Everton man retires at the end of the current campaign.

Guardiola who is a close friend of Arteta right from their days in Barcelona is aware that the Arsenal midfielder is determined to become a coach after retirement having completed some of his badges.

Arteta is reportedly keeping his options open and could retire from active football due to the number of injuries he has suffered in recent seasons.

There is a growing feeling at the Emirates that the Spaniard will be allowed to leave this summer as Wenger prepares to overhaul his midfield at the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger is also thinking of offering the midfielder a coaching role at Arsenal should he retire at the end of the season but it is not expected to be with the senior team like Guardiola will offer him. Wenger said in December that Arteta has to go through the youth system.

Arteta already had coaching spells with the Gunners under 13’s and Wales Under 16’s in the past and could be set to take up a role in Manchester City’s first team should he join Guardiola at the Etihad.
