Barely six months after he bit away from England, shocking reports according to the Express, have it that a return to the Premier League may be on the cards for Luis Suarez, a development that could be of real interest to Arsene Wenger.
The former Liverpool man has not exactly found it difficult to settle at Barcelona despite not being involved in the first two-and-a-half months of the season, but the recent rumbles in and around the Camp Nou has seen the 27-year old Uruguayan singled out as one of those possibly on the verge of seeking immediate relief away from the conundrum.
Former Spanish goalkeeper and Barcelona Sporting Director, Andoni Zubizarreta, was axed from his position early this week following their loss to David Moyes’s Real Sociedad in the first La Liga game of 2015, an event which has led to a chain of disturbing revelations especially regarding the disaffection between Lionel Messi and a large chunk of the board room.
Messi probably perceives an increasing plot to weaken – if that’s the word – the influence he exerts on the team by the acquisition of some of the world’s other top stars and even if a Neymar, Suarez, Messi combination has appeared fearsome to opponents, it may not be actually going down well with the record breaking Argentine. Though not an out-and-out center forward, he’s always preferred to navigate through the center of the attacking third from where he gets his chance to make his trademark curly bottom corner displacements.
Samule Eto’o, Zlatan Ibrahimovich and David Villa were world class strikers in their prime when at Barcelona but it is fair to say the little man’s demands always came first, the consequence being an exit from the Camp Nou for everyone of them. He may just have arrived, but Suarez could be the next in the firing line and he will not have a shortage of clubs waiting to take him.
Wenger certainly did think his attitudinal problems could be curtailed and so made that plus-one-pound bid and besides what happened with Chiellini at the World Cup, he remains one of the most potent strikers in the World and to hear how much he’s been likened with Alexis in terms of their hunger and passion for the game can only bode well for Arsenal if – a BIG IF – he did move from Barcelona soon.
There are really no boundaries to the kind of possibilities that could pan out in a transfer window; some stories first sound improbable when reported but you just never know what happens. However, any chances of this being true would have been dented to an extent after yesterday’s thumping win against Elche in the Copa Del Rey. Suarez showed his all-round class, not just scoring but making an assist for Neymar’s first goal.
