Former Arsenal Player Ian Wright has blamed Arsene Wenger for Lacazette’s poor run of form. The Frenchman who joined the Gunners from Lyon last summer for a club record fee of £52m has been in the worst form of his career. He has scored just one goal in his last 10 appearances for the North London club.
After scoring in just two minutes of action in his debut match against Leicester City earlier this season, Lacazette has found it hard to replicate that form as he has often shown that he lacks confidence in the matches played so far this season.
While reacting to the player’s lack of confidence, Ian Wright said the French manager is responsible for the player’s poor display because he showed little faith in the striker as he always substitutes him in matches despite playing impressively.
“He has played well in games, he has scored goals, but he has been taken off,” he said.
Wright further told BBC Sports that Lacazette would only return to form if Wenger plays him more frequently and allows him to finish more matches.
Lacazette has scored in all competitions he played for the Gunners this season. He might be limited to a fringe player in Wenger’s team due to the acquisition of Aubameyang who has a goal scoring debut for the Gunners against Everton on Saturday, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan who was also lively throughout the time he spent on the field against Sam Allardyce’s men in a game that ended 5-1 in Arsenal’s favour.
