Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has delivered his honest verdict on the managerial situation at Arsenal.
Wright believes that Arsenal are in need of a manager to “shake the place up” when Arsene Wenger leaves The Emirates.
The Frenchman has found himself under serious pressure at the north London side in recent seasons following Arsenal’s inability to challenge for the Premier League title.
Indeed, Arsenal have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign and they finished in fifth place in the table last term.
Wenger signed a new two-year contract with Arsenal last summer, but it remains to be seen whether he will stay on at The Emirates beyond the end of the season.
Arsenal legend Wright has now made his mind up and would like to see a change of manager at The Emirates to help the Gunners start moving in the right direction again.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Wright said: “I think it has just run its course, and the players can sense that.
“It’s got to a point where he’s at a dead-end, a brick wall, and the players can sense that too. They need someone to come in and shake the place up a bit.”
He added: “It will take a few seasons for Arsenal to challenge again. Everyone is progressing right now and moving forward – all of the top five [teams]. Arsenal are going the other way.
“They need to stop that and get a manager who is successful. Then you need to attract a player who will come to Arsenal and not that [other] five [teams]. There is a long road ahead.”
