Bid Underway For Bundesliga Star As Wenger Set To Finally Solve Midfield Woes. Not Reus!

There  appears to be some progress in the works towards making our January plans fulfilled with reports according to Daily Star that Arsenal are preparing a bid for Bayern Munich star, Xherdan Shaqiri.

The 23-year old star of the Swiss campaign at the World Cup has been made available by Pep Guardiola, as the player appears not to be a very fitting part of the Spaniard’s pattern at Munich. Shaqiri had arrived the Allianz Arena as one of the hottest youngsters in Europe back in 2012 but has been reduced to appearances from the bench since the reign of the ex-Barcelona boss.

Arsenal have indicated interest in the former Basel man and it is believed that an approach has been made to satisfy the £10m fee demanded for his release.

Shaqiri’s physique and power makes him a good fit for the Premier League as his able to hold off challenges from defenders while being a very fiery prospect for goalkeepers with his usually accurate shots. His energy will be a complement to the vivacity of current Arsenal man of the moment, Alexis Sanchez, which will be a good reason for gooners to keep watch of this space.

We have had much said already about our midfield woes with the injuries that have come as constant as snow in winter, but perhaps Shaqiri could be the answer. With barely two weeks before the transfer window for the winter opens, monitoring has even become more intense on targets, especially fitness and health conditions as players will be swapping clubs midway into the season. Shaqiri, however, won’t have such pressures on him as he has not been used as much at Bayern as to suggest there could be any issues with his fitness or condition.

With 80 games in all competitions for Bayern since 2012, Shaqiri has not had enough time to really bring out all he has in his locker at Munich with Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben still in undisputable red hot form. The Yugoslav-born diminutive forward, who is renowned for his ability to get past players with quick feet and a powerful left foot, was a star of Ottmar Hitfeld’s Switzerland team in the World Cup, starring especially in the 3 – 0 win over Honduras in which he scored what is the first-ever left-footed hat-trick in World Cup history. A promising wunderkid while  at Basel, 10 goals in 50 BundesLiga games over three seasons at the Allianz Arena is not considered commensurate with his potential and it is calculated as coming down to a lack of regular involvement.

Arsenal will provide him the good pedestal to really make the announcement for the world to take notice of the strength of his potential.
