Arsenal will reportedly move for Borussia Dortmund frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if the move for Benzema doesn’t go through.
Arsenal are not refusing to give up hope on signing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema – despite less-than-positive signs coming out of Spain in recent days that he actually wants to sign – but it seems some alternatives are being drawn up just in case.
The most likely of those is reported to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Borussia Dortmund striker who certainly qualifies as a big-name striker and who has been linked with a move to the Emirates for some time.
The Gabon international has the kind of versatility which appeals to Arsene Wenger – he can play pretty much anywhere along the front line, and has the kind of strength and pace which is the hallmark of a ‘Wenger striker’.
Although the 26-year-old striker recently signed a deal to extend his stay at Dortmund; however, according to reports in Italy, that move could simply be an effort to ensure a good price for Aubameyang when Arsenal come calling – should they fail to lure Benzema into the Emirates.
