According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal move for long term Arsene Wenger target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hit a stumbling block after Borussia Dortmund insisted they would not let the striker leave without having a replacement lined-up.
The report further claims Dortmund sees Olivier Giroud as a possible replacement and have proposed a loan move to sign the French attacker this January.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat have flown to Germany in an effort to complete their swoop for the 28-year-old striker.
The Gunners have already had a £43million offer for Aubameyang rejected, though Arsenal will return with a improved offer. But Dortmund are driving a hard bargain.
Perhaps more pertinently, the Bundesliga side want to complete the signing of Aubameyang’s replacement before allowing their star striker to leave.
Head coach Peter Stoger said he was hoping for a conclusion to the saga within the next 24 hours, but could not guarantee anything.
‘Of course, we’d like there to be a resolution tomorrow (Tuesday), whatever it was,’ said Stoger.
‘Everything that is clarified does everyone good in their lives. But if it takes longer then it will take longer.
‘I cannot say if anything will happen in the next few days.’
