Tony Pulis has revealed that Arsenal attempted to bring Jonny Evans to the Emirates last summer.
The former Manchester United defender is currently attracting interest from Manchester City and have already had a £17m bid rejected.
The Baggies are looking to continue the trend of the crazy transfer market by demanding a whooping £30m for the defender, which City are reluctant to pay.
In a bid to justify their price tag, Pulis believes Evans is one of the Premier League’s best defenders. The Baggies boss claims the Northern Ireland international has attracted interest from big clubs in the past and name-checked Arsenal as one of the clubs who have tried to sign the defender.
Pulls said, as quoted by the Daily Star:
“He had a chance to go to Arsenal last year.
“It didn’t affect him in any way….
I can recall that Arsenal were heavily linked with Evans last summer but not many of us took the reports seriously because he wasn’t seen as the world class defender we were looking for.
Arsenal eventually signed Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia but it could all have been different in West Brom were receptive to our enquiry about Evans.
Somehow, I am happy West Brom were reluctant to do business because Evans wouldn’t have improved us the way Mustafi did.
