Brasilian starlet Wellington Silva has asserted his optimism of being an integral part of the Arsenal team next season, when his loan with Almeria expires at the end of this season.
The 21 year old former Brasil U17 International has not featured in a competitive game for Arsenal since his £3.5 million signing from Fluminese in 2011 due to issues with the relevant paperwork for his work permit. He has had to go on various loan expeditions, traversing the lower tiers of the Spanish Leagues but has now found himself more under the spotlight with Almeria. With the work permit set to be available by December, Silva will be able to return to the Gunners even in January but appears to be eyeing a more substantial return next summer.
“It is very important for me. I could go back to Arsenal next season if Wenger wants me to” Silva said.
He swiftly added, “I am not going to worry about mu future and my only desire right now is to help Almeria preserve their La Liga status” in a bid to show he is only focused on ensuring the best of his current loan spell.
Though yet to find the back of the net in 6 starts for Almeria, the forward certainly believes he has learnt enough to stake a claim in Wenger’s plan for the coming season. Arsenal has an impressive number of players on-loan this season who have been doing really well in their clubs, no less Benif Afobe at MK Dons. The 21 year old added another goal to the 12 he has already for the Dons, making him the current top scorer in the League Cup with 6 goals. Both Afobe and Silva will present a really exciting atmosphere of expectation from the youngsters when they return next season, though Silva may have more to struggle with given he has not previously played for the Gunners first team before.
This may lead to Wenger having to send Silva on one or more loan spells to clubs, perhaps in the Championship or lower, where the searchlight will be beamed on him. He may want to take a cue from Benik Afobe who has gone to MK Dons and is making a name for himself. Afobe has been the most impressive Arsenal loanee this season, scoring goal after goal on a weekly basis. Now into double figures for the season, the 21 year old has certainly made a case for him to be recalled even as early as January.
Silva will be a welcome re-addition to the squad with the exciting prospect of what the samba boys can bring to the table. His transfer fee, for an unknown teenager, was huge and so quite a significant lot will be expected from him when he finally arrives next year. For now, all he could do is keep putting in his best over there in Andalucia while hoping that the processes do not suffer any set-backs.
