Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu admits they are interested in signing Hector Bellerin this summer.
The Spanish giants are making serious efforts to sign Bellerin but Arsenal have so far rebuffed all their attempts, insisting the defender isn’t for sale.
Bellerin signed a long-term contract in November which would keep him here until 2023 and Wenger is aware he is under no pressure to sell the defender.
With Barcelona not prepared to give up on Bellerin, Arsenal have reportedly placed a huge price tag to deter the Catalans and that seems to be working as Bartomeu has revealed they are not prepared to pay over the odds to sign the fullback.
“Recruit Bellerin as a player who left Barça? From the players who left, there were successes and failures. There were successes like Piqué, Alba, Aleix Vidal, who we recovered. Others like Cesc Fabregas who returned and left 3 years later, had their sporting reason.
“But when a player leaves, if he progresses and has an interesting sporting value, Barca must recover him, but not at any price,” said Bartomeu, as quoted by Tribal Football.
Arsenal getting Bellerin to sign a six-and-a-half year deal in November has proven to be a masterstroke. It has rendered Barcelona as well as the player powerless even if he wanted to return to the Camp Nou.
The decision is now ours and solely ours.
