Arsene Wenger has reiterated Arsenal’s desire to hold on to Sanchez, despite the forward having less than a year left in his contract.
Manchester City are reportedly keen on Sanchez and are planning a bid for the Chilean who is believed to have privately indicated his desire to reunite with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.
Arsenal have warned that he won’t be sold to a rival club but the player and City are still hoping to force the Gunners hands later in the transfer window.
And Wenger is determined to hold on to him and has reiterated the club’s stand again, saying the striker won’t be leaving Arsenal this summer.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the club’s preseason game against Bayern Munich, Wenger said:
“The decision has been made and we will stick to that.”
“The decision is not to sell.”
“The main focus for us is to concentrate on the Premier League and the Premier League for me today is more important than the Champions League.”
“We rested sometimes players in the group stages of the Champions League for the Premier League so that’s become the biggest importance for us.”
“We played 20 years in the Champions League, that’s 17 years before Sanchez arrived and three years with him so he can get us back in there.”
Wenger may be passing a subtle message to Sanchez that it is better to stay and help us get back to the Champions League radar than join another club when it isn’t even guaranteed he will win it wherever he is going.
Personally, I think Sanchez isn’t seeking a move just because of the desire to play in the UCL, there is definitely more to it. Finance maybe? We never can tell.
