Liverpool are on the verge of signing Arsenal target Jean-Michel Seri, according to reports.
Seri is believed to be high on Wenger’s summer wish list but it’s been suggested that Wenger won’t make a move for the midfielder until after Nice’s involvement in Uefa Champions League playoffs.
With the first leg of the final playoff games in progress, it was expected that Arsenal will make an official move in the coming days but it appears that won’t happen after Liverpool made their move.
According to Italian publication Transfer market web via the Daily Star, Liverpool chiefs are about to seal a deal with Nice over the transfer of the midfielder.
Liverpool have been in the market for a new centre midfielder and recently turned their attention to Seri after given up on the pursuit of their top target Naby Keita.
They have now moved fast to close a deal with Nice, handing Arsenal a huge blow in the process.
However, what is surprising is the fee being reported. Its been widely claimed that Nice will not allow Seri leave for any fee less than his €40m release clause but Transfer Market Web claims the Reds will sign the midfielder for €22.5m.
This is unlikely to be true because Seri’s performances for Nice last season means they would be silly to sell him for such meagre fee. A player of his quality is worth more or less his clause these days and I think they will hold out for his full clause and not less.
