According to reports from the Sun, Arsenal had tried to pursue Luke Shaw from Manchester United in a proposed exchange deal for Alexis Sanchez.
According to The Sun, the north London side had initially looked at the possibility of signing Shaw in a swap agreement for Sanchez, but United knocked back their advances with the left-back having become a crucial first-team player under Jose Mourinho.
As a result, the Gunners had to compensate for the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who could not quite hit the heights at Old Trafford, where he was criticised for the lack of creativity in the forward department during the first-half of the season.
Shaw, who has shared the left-back duties with Ashley Young, has a contract at United until June 2018, though United have the option of extending his stay by a further year, with a 12-month clause present in his existing deal.
Despite the snub, The Sun reports that Arsene Wenger’s side will be keeping a close eye on the developments of Shaw with a view to a potential approach at the end of the current campaign.
