Liverpool and Arsenal are set to go head to head in the race to sign Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
The French midfielder is seeking for a move away from Newcastle after the Magpies suffered relegation last season.
The midfielder has spoken publicly of his desire to leave the Championship club and he has been linked to a number of clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.
According to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial via 101 Greatgoals, Arsenal and Liverpool have tabled “proposals” to Newcastle as regards signing Sissoko this summer.
The report claims those proposals haven’t been successful and the Magpies are holding out for a €41m transfer fee.
The report also claimed more than half a dozen of clubs within and outside England are interested in Sissoko’s services but Arsenal and Liverpool lead the race for his signature.
The French midfielder was poor for Newcastle last season, scoring just one league goal throughout the course of the campaign, severing his relationship with Newcastle fans. However, his performances in France’s run to the Euro 2016 final showed how influential the midfielder can be when in form.
Despite his obvious quality, it wouldn’t be a good move should Wenger sign Sissoko as the club already have enough player in the midfield position.
With other areas in the squad needing attention, paying as much as €41m for the French international wouldn’t be a wise decision.
