Arsenal are preparing an improved bid for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to reports.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the midfielder in the last couple of weeks and it appears Wenger is doing all he can to sign the German international. The club has already had a bid of £15.6m rejected and is willing to up its bid in order to bring the 24 year old to the Emirates.
According to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli via Football Insider, Arsenal are preparing a new bid worth £19.5m but are waiting for Valencia to sign a replacement before submitting the bid. He tweeted:
“No further contacts have been made for Mustafi, yet. Arsenal waiting on Valencia to find a replacement”
“That is why there is a delay in submitting an official €23m bid. So nothing concrete yet. Arsenal minds are still open to other players for CB role if they become available.”
The Germany international has become Wenger’s top target as he attempts to bolster the defense which has been ravaged by injuries. The French tactician has publicly revealed his intention to sign a centre back and Giulianelli has now revealed Wenger is biding his time before submitting a bid for Mustafi. He also claimed Wenger is keeping his options open and will move for other targets if any becomes available.
Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Johnny Evans and Federico Fernandez along with Mustafi.
Wenger is believed to be keen on bringing any of the above named players to the Emirates before the end of the transfer window.
