The English Football Association wants to hold talks with Arsene Wenger over the possibility of taking over as manager of England national team, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The French tactician has been linked with the vacant Three Lions job and it is believed he is open to the idea of being the next England manager but he would want to see out his current contract at Arsenal.
According to the report, FA technical director Dan Ashworth is preparing to hold talks with candidates for the job and the FA want to know whether or not there is a genuine chance of Wenger succeeding Roy Hodgson.
Arsenal are unwilling to lose the French man and have offered him a two year contract extension. However, Wenger wants to wait until later this year before making a decision but the report claims the FA would not want to wait till October or November, so Wenger would have to take a decision as soon as possible.
Wenger has already begun work with the Arsenal squad ahead of next season and it is believed the French man wants to have a final shot at winning the league title next term.
Should Wenger indicate his interest to manage England, it is believed the FA would turn their search to a caretaker boss while they wait for Wenger’s contract to expire next summer.
