Wojiech Szczesny’s days at Arsenal are coming to an end with AS Roma interested in keeping him on a permanent deal, and Arsene Wenger seemingly willing to let the Polish shot stopper go on a permanent basis.
The 25-year-old Polish has been Arsenal’s first Choice goalkeeper since taking over from injured compatriot Lukaz Fabianski in 2011/2012 season, before a series of errors last season cost him his spot to David Ospina at the beginning of 2015. The arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea further put his chances of getting back his number one spot on the balance, prompting a loan move to AS Roma.
After some excellent performances for AS Roma, the Serie A team now wants to keep him, with club director of football Walter Sabatini confirming that the club are working on signing the keeper. “We are working on it and would like to keep Szczesny, but knowing Arsenal it will be difficult to achieve that”
Szczesny said he initially wanted to return and fight for his place in Arsenal, but a talk with Wenger changed his mind.
“I actually wanted to stay and challenge him for the spot, but after a conversation with Wenger it was obvious that I should look for new opportunities” he said
