With a brand new season on its way and fans eager to see how their new exciting signings will take the league by storm, Arsenal fans will be filled with the same thoughts they’ve had for a few years now, will it be Arsenal’s turn to lift the Premier League?
Here, we take a look at Arsenal and a few teams that could rival the Gunners for top spot…
Despite years of great beginnings to campaigns, followed by collapses when a title charge is about to be mounted, the future looks bright for the Emirates outfit.
A criticism often directed at Arsene Wenger’s recent teams has been their lack of steel and drive. However, with the signing of combative Granit Xhaxa for around £30m, their reputation of having a soft core is over. If the transfer of Xhaka is combined with a move for a world class striker, then Arsenal have to be considered one of the title favourites. With the season fast approaching why not checkout Arsenal’s team specials markets at Betway, featuring great odds on the Gunners lifting the title.
Gonzalo Higuain has been linked and would be a huge addition, the striker scored 42 goals last season, but Wenger may be reluctant to pay his release clause, thought to be around €90m.
The Blues experienced a truly awful term last campaign and put up the weakest title defence in history, but with Antonio Conte at the helm, Chelsea look destined to put up a challenge this term.
Stamford Bridge’s outfit boast a talented team, and recently added industrious midfielder N’Golo Kante to their ranks. Conte is an avid user of a 3-5-2 and rarely strays far away from a back-three, but doubts surround the suitability of this formation in the Premier League.
The last high profile team to use the system was Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, players looked uncomfortable and were run ragged by teams with pace, width and soon changed to a conventional defensive formation.
If the system works however, Chelsea could be in for an exceptional season. Conte has league winning pedigree and lifted three Serie A titles during his time as Juventus manager.
Spurs managed to have their highest ever Premier League finish last term, yet still managed to finish behind Arsenal.
Mauricio Pochettino experienced a slow start to his tenure at White Hart Lane, but his side clicked spectacularly last season and were title contenders right up until the last few games. Pochettino has a tireless work-ethic and will not stop until Spurs reach the top – expect them to make a push for the top spot.
Jose Mourinho will likely breathe fresh air into a United side that has struggled over the last few years.
Red Devils have signed marvellous marksman Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, this pair, combined with Anthony Martial will be a deadly trio and has the potential to fire United to the top.
The Old Trafford outfit are rumoured to have started negotiations with Paul Pogba over a potential world record move. This switch would really announce to the footballing world United are back in business and ready to conquer all.
