Arsenal are gearing up for the Winter transfer window ahead of time with the Gooners already linked with series of players that could possibly make the switch to the Emirates Stadium in January.
Reports from the San Paolo Stadium in Naples about the displeasure of star man Marek Hamsik have put a host of clubs on alert, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all monitoring the situation.
This was revealed by Juraj Venglos, the Slovakian’s agent, when questioned on the future of Hamsik.
“Future? I prefer not to talk about that”, said Venglos giving a hint as to the possibility of an exit from the club sooner than later.
The apparent disorder at Napoli this season has apparently got under the skin of many star players in the club, as Rafa Benitez and his boys are yet to really get going this season, though they have now managed three successive wins on the trot after a rather stuttering start to the season.
Napoli failed to make it into the lucrative Group stage of the Chmapions League at the expense of Athletic Bilbao, which has not helped their declining financial conditions. They have had to sell their biggest stars in the past for very huge sums, the duo of Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani yielding very huge revenues.
However, in their quest to push Juventus for the Scudetto over the past season, they’ve also splashed substantial amounts of those reciepts on stellar purchases, not least the £30m paid to Real Madrid last year for Gonzalo Higuain. They have failed to match all the spending spree with tangible success, having won just the Coppa D’Italia last season. Their financial weaknesses were also glaring when they couldn’t afford to retain on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina from last season.
Hamsik would probably be a difficult player to sign from Napoli as he is considered as one fo the core chips in the block. Club President De Sanctis and Rafa Benitez would do all within possible limits to keep him, as well as other star players like Higuain. Both players are avalued at a combined fee of about £65m but there’s no guarantee that a bid for either won’t see a demand of a fee as close to all of that.
Perhaps the agent is trying to get a little more from the club. Doing a Rooney you call it?
