The summer transfer window may be just a distant memory, but with the season well underway managers have already started their preparations for January…
The Amazon nation are famous for the breed of exciting players who come to the attention of Europe’s big wigs on a regular basis, the latest of whom is Corinthians’ teenage forward, Malcolm Silva according to Telegraph.
The 17-year old has been linked a move to several clubs, with Arsenal and United rumoured to have interests in him. However, Chelsea are currently the leading favourties according to reports. They have have somewhat kept up a working rapport with Brazilian players with no less than four players on the Selecao team plying their trades at Stamford Bridge.
Already dubbed as having as much potential to follow the paths of Barcelona star, Neymar Jr, Corinthians have slapped a £20m valuation on the youngster, and knowing Abramovich, he’ll probably not break much sweat in sanctioning it, despite nothing concrete known of the player’s abilities to prove it at the top level.
There is always the battle amongst the Premier League’s leading lights to capture the best available talent in the world, and it is fair to say that Chelsea have been quiet impressive in their recruitments of late, especially of young players.
While United will boast of landing the likes of Di Maria and Falcao, both closer to their thirties, Chelsea have embarked on a process that has paid some attention to youth with the aim of building for the future, a fact evinced by the presence of Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard and Oscar, all bought while they were under the age of 21.
Wenger could, as well, claim this as one of the pillars of his reign at Arsenal even if no player under that age have been signed in the last five years, going on to claim a steady place in the first team.
However, with Wenger to be handed only as much as £20m for all the business to be done in the coming weeks of the winter transfer window and knowing the need we have in central midfield and defense, it’s fair to say no one will be pushing for him to rival Chelsea for the youngster’s signature in the winter.
There is a pool of youngsters at the club who run their socks off at the Under-21s and waiting for Wenger to give them a sniff into the first team, with the likes of Benik Afobe poised for a return to the team as he continues to impress on his loan spell with MK Dons in League One.
