Arsenal have got an unlikely source of support going into their clash against Monaco with Belgian star, Eden Hazard pledging his support for the Gunners to return to London with success.
The Gunners are up against an impossible-looking challenge at Monte Carlo Tuesday night and while the Arsenal camp is said to be in optimistic mood, there are not many neutrals who are giving Wenger’s team much of a chance to pull of the required miracle.
However, Hazard, whose Chelsea succumbed to a late Thiago Silva goal at Stamford Bridge to bow out on away goals, believes Arsenal can make English football proud.
“I have a friend Ferreira-Carrasco over there [at Monaco] and I wish him the best. But for English football, I hope Arsenal go through,” Hazard told Canal Plus as cited by the Metro.
Liverpool and Tottenham are already out of the Europa League, and together with Man City, Arsenal are England’s hope of any further involvement in Europe’s elite club competition this year. The Gunners will have to score at least 3 goals at the Stade Louis II while keeping the back door shut and it will be worthwhile to keep defensive watch on Hazard’s friend.
The 21-year old Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco came on as a substitute to score the crushing third goal at the Emirates, just when Oxlade-Chamberlain had given the Gunners hope of snatching at least a draw. The young Belgian star, if he plays, would keep the Arsenal back four busy but the likes of Alexis, Ozil, Cazorla and Giroud should also be able to stamp their authority of the game.
Hazard’s compliment would appear warm and convivial although if considered in the light of his manager’s own sentiments, could present another undertone. Chelsea are ahead of their London rivals on the Premier League log by 7 points with one game in hand and Mourinho did admit the Gunners were in the race now. He also wished Wenger well for the Champions League, but more because it would keep them “busy”.
Perhaps Hazard’s taken cue from his boss?
