Newcastle United are interested in signing Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs, according to reports.
Wenger had earmarked signing a left back as his priority before the season ended and on Tuesday, announced the signing of Sead Kolasinac from Schalke 04.
Kolasinac’s arrival has now plunged the future of Gibbs into doubt. The England international is now being linked with newly promoted Newcastle United.
Rafa Benitez is said to be keen on signing Gibbs but he is balking on meeting Arsenal’s demands.
According to London Evening Standard, Arsenal’s £15m price tag is proving to be a stumbling block to a potential transfer.
The report claims a lot of clubs are keen on signing Gibbs but none of them are prepared to pay what Arsenal are demanding.
Gibbs has just one year left in his Arsenal contract and Newcastle believe the defender should be available for less than £15m.
Considering the current status of the transfer market, one wouldn’t blame Arsenal for demanding that much for a player with just a year left in his current deal.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be forced to soften it’s stand before the transfer window ends but one thing is certain, we can’t keep Gibbs, Monreal and Kolasinac here next term, one has to leave at its most likely Gibbs.
