Deportivo La Coruna are confident of signing Lucas Perez, according to reports.

In the last couple of weeks, Perez has been close to joining several clubs on paper but nothing serious has materialized in reality.

The striker is expected to leave the Emirates this summer and a return to his former club Deportivo is the likeliest outcome, despite interest from England and Turkey.

And the latest development is believed to have left Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez furious.

According to the Daily Cannon, Deportivo are confident of signing Perez despite being reluctant to pay Arsenal’s £13m price tag.

Newcastle who are the only other club chasing the striker, have been inactive in the transfer market and current owner Mike Ashley recently stated he can’t compete in the current transfer market.

Although Perez didn’t play much last season, I think he did well the few times he played and it’s a shame to see him leave just after one year. The arrival of Alexandre Lacazette in a club record £52m deal has made it impossible for the Spaniard to fight his way back into Wenger’s plans.

Arsenal were hoping to resolve Perez’s future earlier and left him out of the preseason squad but nothing has happened yet.

Like Perez, Arsenal are also struggling to ship out other players like Kieran Gibbs, Calum Chambers and Carl Jenkinson who aren’t also in Wenger’s plans.
