Marseille have not given up on signing Olivier Giroud, according to reports.
The French club identified Giroud as their priority target at the end of last season but their efforts have been fruitless because Wenger is not interested in selling the 30 year old.
The boss has already rebuffed Lyon’s attempt to sign the striker and has also frustrated Everton’s attempt.
However, Marseille haven’t been deterred by Wenger’s stand and are still keen on the striker. The French club have set aside a £20m budget for a striker and Giroud features high on their wish list alongside Celtic’s Moussa Dembele.
According to L’Equipe via the Express, Marseille chiefs have already tried to establish contacts with Arsenal over the transfer of Giroud and although they are yet to be successful, they are not giving up on the striker just yet.
Giroud who face a fight with Alexandre Lacazette for a place in Arsenal’s starting xi had remained coy on his Arsenal future but recently dropped a hint that he may have to remain at the Emirates next season.
Speaking about the competition for places in the squad, Giroud said:
“Obviously, there will be more competition – even more than last year, but it’s always nice for a striker to feel the pressure.
“I always deal with it.
“I’ve been through some difficulty this last year, but always succeed to bounce back.”
Marseille would be better off looking elsewhere because I don’t think Wenger can be convinced to sell Giroud. The boss has made winning the Premier League his priority this coming season and wI’ll need a strong and deep squad to achieve that aim. He knows this and that’s the reason he will keep Giroud as quality competition for Lacazette.
