Sevilla director of football Joaquín Caparros has revealed that the club will not approve the sale of defender Steven N’Zonzi this summer unless his release clause is triggered.
The 29-year-old is in the bucket-list of targets for Arsenal in the transfer window and he is believed to have aroused the interest of new boss Unai Emery.
However, if the Gunners wish to secure his move before the door is shut on summer transfers, they must pay his £35 million release clause.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Seville, Caparros remained unchanged in his opinion to cash in on N’Zonzi except his release clause is cleared by his suitors.
He explained that Unai Emery knows the proper channels of negotiating a transfer deal at the Spanish outfit and expects him to honour it.
He said: “Is that a rumour or is it true? Has Unai Emery called you? Well, as a successful man, Unai Emery knows what line the club keeps.
“If he wants N’Zonzi, he will have to call and put the bid in. And the bid is the clause. If you put that bid in, then there are no more negotiations [over the fee].”
On the other side, Arsenal have reached a deal with veteran defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and there are reports they could land Sokratis Papastathopoulos after the Greek revealed his intention to join Arsenal over Manchester United.
