Arsenal have joined the race to sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, according to the Daily Cannon.
Barkley’s is expected to leave Everton this summer after telling his club he won’t extend his contract which expires next summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have been in talks with Everton over the midfielder’s transfer but balked at the Toffees £50m valuation. However, Arsenal have now joined the race for his services.
The report claims Arsenal are now keeping a close watch on Barkley’s situation at Everton and could launch a bid to sign him later in the transfer window.
Wenger is confident he will be able to sign the midfielder for half of Everton’s valuation, whether he will be successful or not remains to be seen.
Arsenal doesn’t appear to be in desperate need of an attacking midfielder at the moment but considering Mesut Ozil’s long-term future is still in doubt, Barkley could well be an option to replace the German.
Both players are miles apart in terms of quality at the moment but under the right guidance, Barkley could go on to become a top footballer just like Ozil.
He will find the right conditions to fulfill his potential at the Emirates and could just go on to be a terrific signing for us if he continues to work hard.
