Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in its attempt to sign Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to reports.
Wenger had reportedly made the German one of his top target this summer as he prepares for a spending spree.
Most recently, reports claimed Wenger has again been impressed by Goretzka’s performances at the just concluded FIFA Confederation Cup tournament and is now lining up an official bid for the midfielder.
However, Arsenal are set to suffer disappointment in its attempt to sign the midfielder as Schalke do not want to sell.
The 22 year old is regarded as one for the future and Schalke want to keep him. Schalke’s sporting director Christian Heidel in an interview, confirmed his club’s decision to hold on to the promising midfielder.
“We’ll definitely go into the next season with Leon,” Heidel said.
“Maybe he is the most important player for us. It makes no sense to us to let him leave ahead of this season.
“It does not have to be a European club, a Chinese one can come in. That does not matter to us.”
The lad has been one of Schalke’s best players and is already a full member of the Germany national team. He is also a versatile player. His ability to play in several midifeld positions without affecting his performance is another trait that has set him apart from his peers.
So it is not surprising that Schalke are determined to hold on to the midfielder, whether Arsenal will be able to force through a deal, we’ll have to wait to find out.
